Thank you for your prayers! I am now back to work at my church, SJSM, helping at the admin department. I am thankful for God’s work of healing evident in me.
As I am writing this, feeling the humid heat on a mid-May night, I am grateful for my botak head. My hair has grown about 1 cm long. After getting used to stares at swimming pools (I don’t wear swimming cap), I am now brave enough to go out without my hats or scarves. Well, I did traumatise a few young children…
Physically, I am doing all that I can to regain my pre-surgery strength. Melvin & I encouraged one another during our morning jogs and weekly swim. I want to be ready for the field when it is time to go again.
Cestmir and Shalom have gotten back their exam papers. We give praise to God for the good results, even for Chinese. This is yet another testimony that God will not short-change us: even though we have been away from the Singapore school system for a year, God is taking care of our children. We just need to trust Him.
Our family are going on a trip today for a week to Bangkok. This trip was initiated by our pastor, in his wisdom, for us to have a closure. We left Bangkok in a hurry last October, not knowing that my cancer would ground me in Singapore for so long. We thought then that we’d be returning to Bangkok soon, so we left without saying goodbye to our friends.
Therefore, we are looking forward to meet our Thai friends again. Most importantly, I want to assure them of God’s love and providence for me—I am still alive and well! Some of them asked hard questions when they learned of my illness. Why is there suffering for God’s people, even the people He called to serve? This is the time when I got to stand in and offer the Christian view on suffering. How would this differ from the Buddhist view? I pray that God will use me as a witness for Him.
Our time under Apprenticeship Programme will come to an end by September. I wish we could leave Singapore for the mission field then but I know for the benefit of my health, the doctors and pastors will not agree. We are exploring ways to continue to serve God while waiting.
Both Melvin & I agree that theological study is a must for us. In the field, nothing beats the Word of God as a shield and ammunition against Satan. We will be taking part-time courses, as a way to prepare ourselves while in Singapore. However, we have not decided which school to enrol.
Please pray for us that may He guide us and show us His direction for the next step.
Thank you for praying with us!
Gina
